Top amateurs line up for Keperra Bowl

IN: News | Queensland Mens | Keperra Bowl (2006) | Preview | 08 May 2006

The top Australasian Amateur golfers have once again descended on Keperra Golf Club for the Keperra Bowl.

In its second year, "the bowl" now takes on a National and International role.

Not only is this event the only 72 hole National Selection Trial to be held in Queensland from 2005 to 2009, the R & A in Scotland recently conferred the status of a World Amateur golf ranking event on "The Bowl."

This year the "Bowl" attracted in excess of 180 entries from players with a handicap of 4.4 or less, which necessitated a ballot to 156 players for the event.

The field includes most of the National, State and Institute squads and International golfers chasing ranking points, as well as Queensland's own Jason Day, arguably the best amateur golfer in Australia at the present time.

The concept of World Golf Ranking Points is new to amateur golf but it would appear that many of the elite International and Australasian golfers will now be entering "counting events" to establish a ranking in amateur golf worldwide.

And so, from the 9th to the 12th of May, Keperra Country Golf Club – the superb 27 hole golf facility in the heart of the Hills District – will literally take its first step onto the World Golf Stage and simultaneously, provide an opportunity for a select few Australian golfers to join the next generation of "stars" to represent their country.

If you want to see some exciting golf from some exciting young players, do yourself a favour and make your way to Keperra Country Golf Club over the next four days.
