The 2006 Keperra Bowl teed off this morning with an exceptional field that includes the country's leading amateur golfers. New South Welshman Richie Gallichan (Toukley) has taken the early clubhouse lead with a fantastic opening round of 66 (-6) on the Keperra Country Golf Club's Old Course. Gallichan was two under (-2) through 13 holes and then had a great run with an eagle on the par 5 5th (his 14th), and three more birdies on the way in.

With only the morning field completing their rounds so far, Gallichan leads a group of four players by 3 shots on three under 69 (-3), including Ha Kyu Sim (Ryde-Paramatta), Ben Weatherly (Northern), Jin Kim (Palm Meadows) and Kevin Lee (Oxley).

Amoung those in this afternoon's field are 16 national squad members including sensational young golfer and recently crowned Queensland Amateur Champion, Jason Day (Hills). The focus will also be on Queensland and Australian cricketer James Hopes (Keperra) who teed off at 11:32am with Day and Victorian Andrew Tampion (Kingswood).
