Day, Gallichan and Foster lead Keperra Bowl

Jason Day (Hills) has maintained his outstanding recent form this afternoon firing a 66 (-6) to share the first round lead of the 2006 Keperra Bowl. Day finished alongside New South Welshman Richie Gallichan (Toukley) and Western Australian Michael Foster (Hartfield).
The Optus Business Direct Keperra Bowl teed off this morning on the Keperra Country Golf Club's Old Course which was presented in beautiful condition. "The Bowl" is Queensland's National Selection Trial event and attracts the country's leading amateur golfers.
Day turned a good round into an excellent round courtesy of a birdie, eagle finish on the 8th and 9th holes.
Gallichan also included an eagle in his back nine (5th hole) and birdied three of the last three holes to post his round of 66 which at the time gave him the clubhouse lead after the completed morning rounds.
Foster's front nine holes was interesting and included 4 birdies and an eagle on the 9th hole. A double bogey on the par 3 8th hole ruined what could have been an amazing run. Never-the-less he played steady golf in and will be happy with his performance. Foster was the runner up in last year's event and has an obvious liking for the Keperra course.
Just one shot back from the leaders is Virginia golfer Ben Fletcher, who fired an impressive round of 67 (-5) and a further shot back is Singaporean golfer Kenneth Smith (Warren - Singapore).
The top 90 players plus ties after tomorrow's second round will progress through to the final two rounds on Thursday and Friday this week.
