Gallichan makes his move at Keperra Bowl
IN: News | Queensland Mens | Keperra Bowl (2006) | Round Three | 11 May 2006
Richie Gallichan (Toukley) has fired an impressive round of 66 (-6) today to lead the 2006 Optus Business Direct Keperra Bowl leading into tomorrow's final round. Gallichan is at 14 under (-14) and will take a 3 stroke lead over Western Australian Michael Foster (Hartfield) who managed a round of 69 (-3).
Gallichan, Foster and Jason Day (Hills) began the day as joint leaders and battled throughout the day. At one stage after 13 holes with the three players all at four under (-4) for the day it looked like the they may again shoot the same score for the third consecutive day. Things would change dramatically in the last 5 holes with Gallichan making a couple of birdies, Foster making a birdie and two bogeys and Day triple bogeying the last to go with a bogey on the 16th for a disappointing round of 72 (even).
Moving day was certainly just that today, with Australian Amateur Champion Tim Stewart (Monash) moving into contention at ten under (-10) with a round of 65 (-7). It was a fantastic display and his round featured an eagle on the par 5, 5th hole and seven birdies. He trails the leader Gallichan by four shots and will play alongside him, and Foster in tomorrow's final round commencing at 10:00am.
Another great round was returned by last week's Queensland Amateur Championship runner-up Ray Beaufils (Surfers Paradise), who carded 6 birdies and no bogeys in his round for a 66 (-6). He is now at nine under (-9) for the Championship and five shots behind.
The field will commence their final rounds tomorrow between 8:00am and 10:00am with the expected finish time approximately 2:15pm. The Championship presentation will take place immediately following the close of play.
