Webb returns to glory days with Michelob victory

Karrie Webb appears to be back to the form that saw her dominate the LPGA Tour in the late 1990's and the early part this century. Her seven shot win over the strongest field the LPGA can assemble, has once again shown that her dramatic win at the Kraft Nabisco six weeks ago has been the catalyst for a return to the glory days.
After two or three seasons in a relative golfing wilderness, by her standards, Webb has been in contention in each of her starts since the Nabisco and has now recorded two wins, two runner up placings and a tenth placed finish in her last five starts.
On a difficult day for scoring as winds swept across the Kingsmill Resort in Virginia in today's final round, Webb extended her five shot overnight lead to seven as the chasers were unable to place any pressure on her. The only players to take any ground off her were too far back to make any difference to the winning result and when Lorena Ochoa took a double bogey at the tenth it was case of by how far the Australian would win.
Webb had indicated after her Nabisco win that she was now determined to enjoy her golf and she appeared to be doing just that as she waltzed to such a large victory.
A bogey at the last not only cost Ochoa outright second place but her lead on the LPGA Tour's ADT Money List. Webb, who earned US$330,000 for the victory, leads the money list with US$935,000, some US$20,000 ahead of Ochoa, who earned US$173,00 for her share of second with Hee-Won Han. Han recorded her best finish of the season but her fourth top ten in her last five starts.
Defending champion, Cristie Kerr, Pat Hurst and Paula Creamer all shared fourth place.
The best of the remaining Australians was Nadina Light who was 42nd and Lindsey Wright who finished 60th.
Much of the week's discussion aside for the emphatic win of Webb was the performance of Annika Sorenstam, who missed her first cut in many years on the LPGA Tour.
The LPGA Tour now moves to New Rochelle New York for the Sybase Classic although Webb will instead be taking a break.
