Crawford fires 61 to head WA PGA

The afternoon field has failed to make any ground on tear away morning leader Adam Crawford. A cool morning greeted the early players at the Western Australian Golf Club and it was the Queensland based Professional that produced the days best.
Crawford produced eight birdies and an eagle during his opening round 61. His nine under par tally leading the quality field by four shots and equalling the lowest score in the clubs seventy eight year history.
The affable thirty year old carded 4 under over his final four holes with an eagle on the last the highlight.
Crawford produced his lowest competition score while playing in the feature morning group alongside Von Nida Tour OOM leader David Diaz and local favorite Kim Felton.
Earlier in the year Crawford was on the verge of brilliance in the joint sanctioned Nationwide Tour events. Playing in the final few groups on the Sunday of both events and with a chance to secure playing rights on the lucrative US Tour he produced two disappointing Sunday’s.
He has been financially compelled to stay at home and compete on the Von Nida Tour. He will be trying to secure funds mid year in Australia to return to the US Tour School later in the year for his third attempt at the arduous PGA Tour School.
Victorian Andrew Pitt holds down second position, sitting alone at 5 under par 65.
