Three way tie at WA PGA

In absolutely perfect conditions the tournament failed to produce an outright favourite at the close of the third day’s play of the Western Australian PGA Championship.
The final trio played the 18th hole very differently to each other to ensure the final group remains identical to that of the Saturday. Joint overnight leader Jon Abbott added a 68 to his campaign, narrowly missing an eagle putt at the 18th green from inside three metres. Alaban two putted from five metres leaving his eagle putt hanging over the edge, and Adam Crawford faced a 30 metre putt for eagle that he ran down the slippery slope and into the greenside trap before making a sand save to avoid dropping a shot at the last.
The dry conditions have ensured the course has not relinquished an abundance of birdies since Crawford’s first round 61. The green speed has been recorded at 12 on the Stimpmetre, equivalent to what you may find at the US Open.
Alaban will carry the local hopes, replacing pre-tournament favourite Kim Felton after he returned a disappointing 71 to leave himself a six shot deficit with one round to play.
Von Nida Tour Order of Merit leader, David Diaz has joined the contenders to have an outside chance of a third victory in the 2006 season.
The final group will hit off at 11:00 WA time.
