Three Japanese Golf Tour players received a bonus by qualifying to play at next month’s US Open at Winged Foot.
Three of the Tour’s leading players made it through the 36 hole sectional qualifying held today in Japan at the venue for last week’s Mitsubishi Diamond Cup tournament. Toru Taniguchi, Tadahiro Takayama and Keiichiro Fukabori have qualified while New Zealander David Smail and Hiroyuki Fujita are alternates.
Taniguchi and Fukabori both recorded top tens at last week’s Mitsubishi event but Takayama bounced back after withdrawing from the first round to be on his way to New York in two weeks time.
Thirteen more venues across the USA and England will hold final qualifying next Monday and Tuesday with the one in England for European Tour players. Last year the US Open Champion, Michael Campbell qualified at Walton Heath before heading across the Atlantic and winning at Pinehurst.
