In a field that included not only the top 5 amateurs in the US, but 8 of the top 10, and 18 of the top 25, Carlton Forrester of Birmingham, AL won the 45th rain-shortened Northeast Amateur with a 36-hole total of 132, 6 under par. In second place, two shots back was the recent winner of the Sunnehanna Amateur, Webb Simpson, from Raleigh, NC who will be entering his junior year at Wake Forest
The tournament started on Thursday with sunny skies but Friday was played with one temporary suspension of play but the round was completed shortly before rain began to fall. The third round was delayed until 12 Noon with the hope of missing the weather but play was suspended for the day at 2:30 with the rain saturating an already wet golf course. On Sunday the hope was to try to complete the 3rd round but the rain never let up Saturday night and all day Sunday. The tournament was declared a 36-hole event for only the second time in its 45-year history.
Jason Day finished the best of the Aussies in equal 9th, the same position as last week's Monroe Invitational. Andrew Dodt was 25th and Rick Kulacz was 43rd.
