Following the cancellation of the International Final Qualifying for the British Open, which was to have been held at the Congressional Golf Club yesterday, a decison has been made to make the twelve places that would have been on offer at that venue to the leading twelve World Ranked players in that field.

The poor weather that has plagued the Washington area in recent days saw the event finally cancelled.

As a consequence, two further Australians have been added to the twenty Australasians already qualified and so Steve Elkington and Aaron Baddeley will now be on their way to Liverpool for the Open Championship which starts on July 20th.

Those unable to compete for those places, and who did not qualify via world ranking, may now, if they so choose, attend Local Final Qualifying in the UK just prior to the Open Championship.

Those who gained places are:
Aaron Baddeley AUS
Bo Van Pelt USA
Brett Wetterich USA
Greg Owen England
JB Holmes USA
Jeff Maggert USA
Jerry Kelly USA
Lee Westwood ENG
Steve Elkington AUS
Ted Purdy USA
Tom Pernice USA
Vaughn Taylor USA
