Hope Island updates with new GPS technology

A new dash-mounted full-colour Global Positioning System (GPS) installed recently in all 85 golf carts at the Hope Island Golf Club represents an exciting technological first, not only for the Club but also for Australia. Hope Island Golf Club on the Gold Coast is the first club anywhere in the world, outside of North America, to take on this very latest in cutting-edge techno wizardry.
In an innovative design move, large LCD widescreens providing brilliant full colour graphics and 3D course layouts, are mounted on cart dashboards. In this new position, they offer far greater visibility particularly for players wishing to refer to the screen as they make club selection from golf bags located at the rear of the cart. The screens also include a special zoom feature to provide further close-up detail of holes as required.
The new system provides a range of opportunities for on-screen advertising, promotions and messages which can be individually tailored and distributed to several different golf day groups which could conceivably be on course at the same time. In addition to receiving personalised communications, each individual group can maintain their own leaderboard and have this information relayed back to the Clubhouse during play to provide up-to-the-minute competition updates.
Audio prompts can also be loaded into the system to enable each group to receive their own special golf day welcome as carts are boarded at the commencement of play.
Alan Meacock, Hope Island Golf Club General Manager commented – “The installation of this new GPS system will serve to reinforce Hope Island’s position as an industry innovator and the leading brand in a highly competitive marketplace. We are confident that our players and golf day clients will greatly appreciate the many features and benefits of this new technology.”
The system was installed by On-Pin GPS Golf Systems, one of the world’s leading GPS specialists for the golf industry. GPS golf was introduced to Australia for the first time in 1998, with the installation of an inaugural system which was also at Hope Island Golf Club.
