27 year old New South Welshman Brendan Jones has retained a share of the lead at the lucrative Philip Morris event in Japan, with a second round 67 to add to his opening 65. He is joined in that lead by Toshi Izawa who added a second round 66 to the same first round score.

They have opened up a three shot lead over Shingo Katayama, Dinesh Chand and Prayad Marksaeng.

Last week’s Bridgestone Open winner Scott Laycock bounced back from a slow start yesterday to record the day’s best round of 64 which included a bogey at the opening hole. He now stands at eight under in sixth place four behind the leaders.

Richard Backwell is at 2 under in 42nd place, with Anthony Gilligan and David Smail at one under in 55th spot.

The event carries a first prize of $A580,000.
