New Zealand Golf today announced the country’s premier golf tournament – the New Zealand Open – will be sponsored by Blue Chip Financial Solutions and will be known as the Blue Chip New Zealand Open.

Blue Chip is a leading financial planning and investment company with offices throughout New Zealand and Australia. The new sponsorship was announced at a special launch at Gulf Harbour Country Club, in the Rodney District, today.

The sponsorship agreement is unique in that it is a marketing partnership between New Zealand Golf and Blue Chip that spans the entire year, not just the four days of the New Zealand Open event.

Under the sponsorship deal, Blue Chip expects to increase its profile and also begin to support golf at the grass roots level. There are a number of initiatives currently being discussed that will see golf clubs and members benefit as well.

New Zealand Golf chief executive Larry Graham said he was thrilled to have a company of the calibre of Blue Chip on board as a partner of New Zealand Golf.

“Blue Chip is a forward thinking company that have shown a great deal of initiative in their approach to this relationship. Their interest in supporting the game throughout New Zealand is inspirational and I am sure golfers will support Blue Chip in return for their support.”

Blue Chip managing director Mark Bryers said there was good commercial rationale to the deal.

“We are very excited about the opportunities we see developing through our involvement with New Zealand Golf.”

“We have been talking to New Zealand Golf for a number of months now about the sponsorship deal and have only just finalised the agreement in the last few days.”

Blue Chip’s Group Marketing Manager, Ben Cochrane, is also excited about the new partnership, “We have developed a unique sponsorship model, where we can continually inject funds into grass roots golf throughout the year. Blue Chip’s financial expertise and New Zealand Golf’s vision make for an exciting marketing partnership to deliver strong growth for golf in this country.”

The 89th New Zealand Open, co-sanctioned with the Australasian and European Tours, will be staged at Gulf Harbour Country Club on the week beginning 27 November 2006.
