A brilliant final round of 65 by Cristie Kerr aided by a late collapse by long time leader, Angela Stanford, has seen the 28-year-old Kerr take out the CN Canadian Open at the London Hunt and Country Club in Ontario.
This was Stanford's tournament to win or lose after her brilliant opening round of 64 and to have taken a four shot lead into round four and to still lead by three with nine to play only to lose by one will haunt her for some time. Bogeys at the last two holes by Stanford, also 28, left her one behind Kerr who was mistake free in round four.
This was Kerr's eighth LPGA Tour victory and her second of the season.
Pat Hurst finished with a rock solid final round to secure third place ahead of the defending champion Meena Lee who found the inspiration to record a better week than she has shown of late.
The best of the Australians was Lindsey Wright who showed she had recovered from a horror Sunday last week at Royal Lytham & St Annes. She had destroyed any chance of a top five finish at the Women's British Open but found the means to be back contending this week and her share of 6th place is her best finish of the season. Her earnings now are beyond US$220,000 in 2006.
Nadina Light also had a good week when 10th and Rachel Hetherington finally found some form late in the tournament and finished 28th.
