New Zealand Golf has today confirmed the four venues for regional qualifying for New Zealand’s premier golf tournament – the Blue Chip New Zealand Open.
Regional qualifying will be held on Friday 17 November at four venues around the country – Manor Park Golf Club in Wellington, Christchurch Golf Club in Christchurch, Pupuke Golf Club in North Harbour and Manukau Golf Club in Auckland.
There are 30 spots available from regional qualifying to go onto the final qualifying event, which will be held at Manukau Golf Club on Monday 27 November. The amount of qualifiers from each regional event will be decided proportionally after entries have been received.
The remaining spots in the final qualifying event will be reserved for full members of the Australasian & European PGA Tours who are not exempt into the Blue Chip New Zealand Open along with players who are exempt from regional qualifying through specific New Zealand Golf criteria.
A field of up to 144 is expected for the final qualifying event and eight positions will be available to compete in the Blue Chip New Zealand Open.
New Zealand Golf chief executive Larry Graham said competition to qualify for the Blue Chip New Zealand Open would be tough.
“Last year we had 216 entries for regional qualifying and we are expecting a similar number this year for what is one of New Zealand’s premier and largest sporting events.”
Entry forms for the regional qualifying events will be available on the New Zealand Golf website www.nzgolf.org.nz from 1 September.
The 89th Blue Chip New Zealand Open, co-sanctioned with the Australasian and European Tours, will be staged at Gulf Harbour Country Club on 30 November to 3 December 2006.
