Volvo to sponsor New Zealand Open

New Zealand Golf today announced leading car brand Volvo will be a supporting sponsor of the country's premier golf tournament - the Blue Chip New Zealand Open.
Under the sponsorship deal, Volvo, through its local importer Motorcorp Distributors Ltd, will become a marketing partner of New Zealand Golf for the next three years. The agreement is unique in that the partnership spans the entire three years, not just the Blue Chip New Zealand Open event itself.
This is the second sponsorship announcement New Zealand Golf has made in just under a week after they revealed last Tuesday the lead sponsor for the event would be Blue Chip Financial Solutions.
As part of the agreement, Volvo will also be involved in the national and provincial events that New Zealand Golf manages across the country and will also be known as the "official vehicle of New Zealand Golf."
New Zealand Golf chief executive Larry Graham said he was thrilled to have a high-quality international brand like Volvo on board as a partner of New Zealand Golf.
"Volvo is a great fit for golf. They are a premium product that presents the right image at the Blue Chip New Zealand Open, which is one of New Zealand's premier and largest sporting events," he said.
Motorcorp Distributors managing director Wallis Dumper said golf was a great fit for the company as over a third of their current New Zealand customers already played golf and the Swedish brand had a long term association with the sport internationally.
"We have been talking to New Zealand Golf for a number of months now about this agreement and are excited about the opportunities around golf in New Zealand. We see our involvement with golf as the ideal way to grow the Volvo brand," Mr Dumper said.
"Our support at other events around the country throughout the year will allow Volvo and our dealer team to get involved with the sport at a more grass roots level."
The 89th Blue Chip New Zealand Open, co-sanctioned with the Australasian and European Tours, will be staged at Gulf Harbour Country Club on the week beginning 27 November 2006.
