Australian Brendan Jones has led the Philip Morris event in Japan from the start and now, with just one round to go, he faces the prospect of not only his first win as a professional but the largest first prize (along with the Dunlop Phoenix in Japanese golf.

First prize tomorrow is 40,000,000 yen or $580,000 not to mention the other trimmings such a win can bring, so Jones’s future could well be shaped in the next twenty four hours. He has opened up a lead of two shots over Toshi Izawa with another two back to Shingo Katayma.

Scott Laycock is in ninth place and eight behind the lead at ten under, with David Smail 32nd, Richard Backwell 54th, Steve Conran 57th and Anthony Gilligan in 62nd place.
