Coles out but Stolz, Grady and others to play NSW Open

The relaunch of the New South Wales Open is to be played at Horizons Golf Resort, Salamander Bay from 7 – 10 November 2002.

The NSW Open has attracted over 400 entries from professional and amateur golfers wishing to become a part of this historic event. Of these 156 have qualified to shoot for the Championship title.

Professionals who have confirmed their place in the final field include Players Championship winner Andre Stolz and other local favourites Wayne Riley, Nathan Green, Wayne Grady and Ed Stedman. Gavin Coles, who recently qualified to play on the US PGA Tour, has withdrawn from the NSW Open field today.

The huge list of competitors for the NSW Open was trimmed in qualifying rounds which were played today at both Eastlake and Long Reef Golf Clubs.

David Allen, Executive Director of the NSW Golf Association said “There were strong performances today in the qualifying rounds. Glenn Joyner (VIC), who is on the come back trail after injury, shot a 67 at Eastlake and this was on a course he has never played on. Another of the good efforts today was Danny Vera (NSW) who shot 65 at Long Reef to easily be the leading qualifier of this event. Danny won the Mazda NSW PGA Trainee Championships, which was held at Horizons Golf Resort in August”.

The NSW Open Pro Am will be held on Wednesday, 6 November with a full field taking the course. The first of the professionals will take the field at 7.30am on Thursday 7 November.
