England’s Luke Donald won the Southern Farm Bureau Classic after the final round was cancelled due to unplayable conditions. It was Donald’s first victory, with 13th his previous best finish in 41 starts. Donald posted a three-round total of -15, one stroke better than fellow rookie Deane Pappas.
Donald became the 18th first-time winner this year and the third in as many weeks, with Jonathon Byrd winning last week’s Buick Challenge and Bob Burns the week before. He took home US$468,000, surpassing the US$1 million mark for the year.
Brad Elder finished in outright third place, one stroke ahead of Brad Faxon, Jonathan Byrd, Spike McRoy, Chris Smith, Robin Freeeman and Jay Williamson.
Most of the players on the leaderboard didn’t get to the first tee as only 12 groups actually began play. Play was supposed to have resumed early Monday morning (US time) but no players were able to get out on the course.
John Senden finished the best Australasian at -6, one shot ahead of Paul Gow and Steve Allen, who both finished in equal 46th. Lonard was one stroke further back at -4 and equal 54th.
