Play is underway in the first round of the NSW Open Championship this morning at Horizons Golf Resort, Salamander Bay.
Of the players to hit off in the bright still conditions, Victorian Jason Norris, Queenslander Terry Price and local hope Nathan Green all made solid starts to be 2 under par. A string of players are tied at 1 under, including Brendan Chant, Stuart Bouvier and Shane Tait.
The second half of the field hits off from 12pm. It will be interesting to see what role the wind will play in the rounds of the afternoon groups, with blustery conditions making yesterday’s Pro-Am a tricky challenge as the day wore on.
Crowds are expected to build today and Friday, with the final rounds on the weekend predicted to be played in hot, fine weather. A park-and-ride system has been set up for golf fans travelling to Horizons to watch the competition over the next three days.
Visitors can park at the Gan Gan army camp off Nelson Bay Road and take a $2 shuttle bus on the course. Entry Fees for Thursday and Friday are just $10, with children under 12 free. Entry for the final rounds on Saturday and Sunday is $15.
