Part one of stage two (if that makes sense) of PGA Tour Qualifying is underway at three venues across the US with several Australasians aiming for a spot at the final stage of qualifying for next year’s USPGA Tour. The top twenty or so players from each of six venues will advance from stage two. Approximately eighty players are at each course.

In Panama City, California, New Zealander Richard Lee has started well to be in 20th position after a round of 72. That may not sound too exciting but it included a second nine of 32 to finish off a shaky start. Lee has played well in Japan this year and is showing the benefits of more regular tournament golf.

Ben Ferguson, the Canadian domiciled Australian, is in 53rd place at the same venue.

In Seaside, California, Matthew Ecob is 33rd following a first round 74, with Craig Spence and Matt Jones in 62nd place with 77.

In McKinney, Texas, ex-Queensland based Zoran Zorkic has opened with a 68 to share the lead, Bradley Hughes is 25th at 72 and James McLean 32nd with 73.

Three venues will complete their event this week with the other three starting November 12th.
