Australian Eisenhower representative Won Joon Lee makes his professional debut today when he tees it up at the Mitsui Sumitomo Visa Taiheiyo Masters on the Japan Golf Tour.
The tournament is held at the base of Mt Fuji on the Taiheiyo Golf Club’s layout and boasts a field that includes the likes of defending champion Darren Clarke, Sergio Garcia and the Japan Golf Tour’s leading money winner in 2006, Shingo Katayama.
Last month Lee performed with much credit when he contended at the Japan Open before eventually finishing in 24th place after being in 4th position heading into the final day.
Lee will also play in next week’s Dunlop Phoenix tournament in Miyazaki in a field that will include Tiger Woods and the following week at the rather grandly named Casio World Open on the island of Shikoku.
While the lure of these events is very attractive given the prizemoney available and the options they might offer Lee should he perform well, it is perhaps surprising that he has opted to miss the Australian Open given his close ties with Australian golf as an amateur. He would surely have been granted an invite to play based on his Eisenhower team inclusion.
