Overnight leaders Jon Riley and Tony Carolan have hit off in the final round of the NSW Open Championship being played at Horizons Golf Resort, Salamander Bay.

The Queensland pair started the day 10 under the card with a one-shot lead over part-time professional Jason Norris and two shots clear of group of four on eight under including Marcus Cain and Michael Wright.

Some of the name players in contention today are Shane Tait and Terry Price at -7, Wayne Grady at -6 and Andre Stolz at -5. Stolz recently won the Victorian Open for his second title of the year.

At stake is the coveted NSW Open Championship title, a winner’s cheque of $36,000 and total prizemoney of $200,000.

Carolan will be hoping his sizzling form at the end of yesterday’s round will have stayed with him. He fired an eagle and two birdies on the last three holes, to match Riley’s new course record of 65.

Of those hitting off early, New South Welshman Adam Groom has picked up four strokes in early play to be seven under after six holes.

A park-and-ride system has been set up for golf fans travelling to Horizons to watch the final day of the championship. Visitors can park at the Gan Gan army camp off Nelson Bay Road and take a $2 shuttle bus to the course. Entry for the final round today is just $15.
