After success at the World Cup only weeks ago, Vicky Uwland is among five Australians to earn a playing card for the European tour after last weekend’s qualifying school.

With her confidence arguably sky high after the World Amateur victory of which she was an integral part, Uwland led the group of Australians aspiring for their ticket to the Ladies European Tour. Uwland finished alone in third position on 12 under, two shots behind top qualifier Isabella Maconi, but set a new personal record for four rounds of golf at the Grenoble course in France.

Only four strokes behind Uwland was fellow Victorian Tamara Hyett, who completed the four days in 7th position, while Queenslander Rebecca Stevenson easily made her way into the top 30 to earn a full playing card on the circuit, ending up in 19th spot and even par for the event. Rachel Duncan and Joanne Whalley gained partial cards by virtue of finishing within the top 50.

In total, 31 players qualified at two over par or better for a full category seven exemption card for the 2003 Ladies European Tour, with 21 of those competitors closing better than even par, the highest number of players below par at the LET Tour school.

In other qualifying news around the globe, this year’s Australian Amateur winner Nikki Campbell, along with Rebecca Coakley & Nadina Taylor have progressed to the final qualifying stages of the challenging Japanese LPGA Tour to be held in December. Campbell had last month secured a partially exempt card on the strong US LPGA Tour after their qualifying program.
