Women's Australian Open announces lineup

Golf Australia today announced a world class player line up of local and international talent to contend the 2007 MFS Women’s Australian Open.
Players confirmed include current Women’s World Match Play Champion, American, 21 year old star, Brittany Lincicome, local pin-up girl and the 2006 Ladies’ European Tour rookie of the year Nikki Garrett; 16 year old Gold Coast school girl and current ANZ Ladies’ Master’s title holder Amy Yang and Women’s Open Organising committee member and LPGA tour professional Shani Waugh.
Paul McNamee, Executive Chairman Australian Opens, Golf Australia said, “Women’s golf is about skill, talent and glamour and looking at our line up we’d have to say that the MFS Women’s Australian Open has never looked better.”
Also lining up will be 18 players from the Korean KLPGA Tour that are all in the top 31 money list and three Japanese, LPGA of Japan Tour players all currently ranked in the top 15 on its Tour.
Other Australians joining the field include Rachel Hetherington; Sarah Kemp; Rebecca Stevenson; Sarah-Jane Kenyon; Cherie Byrnes; Nadina Light and Lindsey Wright.
“Let’s not forget that all these women will be joining our own legendary Karrie Webb, number two Nikki Campbell, defending champion Laura Davies from the UK and top 20 ranked glamour girl Natalie Gulbis of USA. What’s even more exciting is the amazing array of young talent coming up through the ranks.
“Put all these elements together and you have an event that will raise the profile of women’s golf,” stated McNamee.
Nikki Garrett and Shani Waugh both attended today’s launch and were thrilled that the event was back on and already featuring an incredible pedigree of players. Both acknowledge that the competition will be fierce but are committed to giving it their best chance of winning the Patricia Bridges Bowl.
The Championship will be held at The Royal Sydney Golf Club 1- 4 February 2007 and is co-sanctioned with the ALPG Tour and Ladies European Tour.

Tickets will include a twilight viewing session after 4pm on Thursday and Friday and limited premium reserved grandstand seating on the 18th green on Saturday and Sunday, priced at $20 and $70, respectively.
