Queensland amateur Aaron Pike is the equal leader in the NSW PGA Championship at Riverside Oaks after shooting a second round of seven-under-par 65. Pike and Paul Marantz share the lead at 12-under-par half way through the second round.
Pike made the turn at 3-under but quickly accelerated his scoring thanks to eagles on the par five tenth and twelfth holes. The young amateur was unable to advance his lead as he closed with six consecutive pars and a round of 65.
The current Victorian Amateur Champion and 2005 Queensland Amateur Champion is relishing the opportunity to compete against the professionals.
“This is where I want to be, this is who I have to beat,” Pike explained. The 21-year-old is planning on switching to the professional ranks at the end of 2007 with the lucrative European Tour his immediate goal.
The low rounds of the morning came from New South Welshmen Aaron Black and Ed Stedman, who both catapulted their way onto the leaderboard with eight under-par rounds of 64. Black is currently in outright third at eleven-under-par while Stedman is at eight-under-par and in a tie for seventh.
