End in sight for preliminary USPGA Tour qualifying

It might sound confusing but the final version of stage two qualifying for next season’s USPGA Tour is under way at three venues this week. This will finally complete all preliminary qualfying and leave only the finals from December 4th through 9th in La Quinta California for graduation to the 2003 PGA Tour.

In California Australian Mark Hensby is in 12th place with a first round of 74, with New Zealanders Michael Long 21st with 75 and Matthew Lane 76. The leaders in California are, one of the world’s longest hitters in Emanuele Canonica and 2002 Japan PGA Tour event winner Christain Pena.

In Orlando Florida, Grant Waite is the only Australasian going around and he is in 7th place following a first round 68.

In Texas no Australasians but seven time PGA Tour winner Bill Glasson is forced to go thorugh this process and leads after round one. Bryce Molder of whom much is expected in future years is in 51st place there.
