Thongchai and Montgomerie showdown?

IN: News | Asian | TCL Classic (2002) | Round Three | by Bruce Young | 17 Nov 2002

Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee has maintained his lead in the inaugural TCL Classic in Guangdong in southern China, following his third round 68. Leading into round four he has a two shot margin over Colin Montgomerie with a further three shots back to first round leader Ted Oh.

Alone in fourth place is twenty four year old local and perhaps the next Chinese golfing star, Liang Wen-Chong. Liang's third round of 65 included a hole in one at the par three sixth and after a first round of 78 on Thursday it is hard to imagine that he would have contemplated this position then. New Zealander Michael Campbell and Prayad Marksaeng are next, tied in fifth place, Eddie Lee a better effort for a third round 70 to be in 33rd spot, Richard Best, Michael Wright and Dean Alaban 49th, Terry Pilkadaris 54th and Ian Edwards 64th.
