Leaney continues winning form at WA Open
IN: News | by Bruce Young | 17 Nov 2002
Stephen Leaney survived a four way playoff yesterday to win the $40,000 WA Open - Nedlands Masters at the Nedlands Golf Club in the suburbs of Perth, Western Australia.
Leaney's win came at the expense of Jarrod Moseley, Steve Collins and Scott Strange after the four were tied on five under 139 for the thirty six hole event. The playoff went three holes with Moseley and Collins departing at the first and Leaney eventually accounting for Strange at the third.
It was Leaney's fourth WA Open title and it also gave him back-to-back wins at the Nedlands Masters. Young West Australian, Darren Tan was the amateur champion on his home course following rounds of 71 and 69 in the 36-hole two day tournament.
With a brilliant season in Europe behind him and now this win to fine tune his game prior to this week's Holden Australian Open, Leaney may well be a dark horse for that event starting Thursday in Melbourne.
