Appleby takes charge at the Grand
IN: News | Australasian PGA | Australian Open (2001) | Round Three | 24 Nov 2001
Stuart Appleby shot a -4 (67) to move to the top of the leaderboard along with overnight leader, Scott Laycock. Appleby, who missed the cut at last week's PGA, took to the hot and dry conditions much better than most today and was among only a handful of players at the top of the leaderboard who managed to shoot a sub-par round. Scott Laycock shot an Even par round 71, which today, was among the better scores and in turn he kept his place at the top of the leaderboard going into the fourth and final round.
World number 4, Ernie Els could manage only a 2 (73) and slipped back to -4 but still holds on to outright third place. Geoff Ogilvy carded a 3 (74) and sits in outright fourth place behind Els and just four strokes off the leaders. Rod Pampling is at -2 after a 4 (75).
Last week's winner at the Australian PGA, Robert Allenby, is at 4 after his second consecutive day at 2 (73) and in 26th place.
The forecast for tomorrow is late showers and thunderstorms so it is sure to be an interesting day of play with so many in contention and unpredictable weather.
