Baddeley makes it seven at Augusta

While it had essentially been the case since his win at the FBR event earlier in the year, Aaron Baddeley has been officially confirmed as Australia’s seventh competitor at this year’s Masters following the close of qualifying criteria yesterday.
Baddeley needed to be inside the top fifty in the World after the publication of the World Rankings in the week prior to this year’s event and he finds himself at an all time high of 25 after the completion of the WGC event in Miami at the weekend where he finished in a share of 6th place..
Baddeley also qualifies by being inside the top ten on the money list at the completion of last week’s event. The US$1.65 million he has earned in season 2007 to date has him in him in 6th place on the USPGA Tour money leaders list.
Adam Scott, Geoff Ogilvy, Nick O’Hern, Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby and Rod Pampling were already qualified through various other criteria but Baddeley makes seven.
Baddeley has played the Masters on two previous occasions in 2000 and 2001 missing the cut on both occasions but his current form would suggest he will do much better this time round.
Given that three Australians are currently inside the top ten on the USPGA Tour money list and four are inside the top twenty in the World ranking, we may well have the best hope of taking the only Major Championship title not yet won by an Australian.
New Zealander Michael Campbell is also in the field.
