Another three Aussies for Carnoustie

IN: News | Asian | British Open International Qualifying - Asia (2007) | by Bruce Young | 28 Mar 2007

A further three Australians will have their first start in a major championship in July when Adam Groom, Won Joon Lee and David Gleeson play the Open Championship at Carnoustie.

The trio secured their place in the field for the July 19th event at the Asian Tour’s International Final Qualifying at the Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore yesterday. They were joined by Singapore’s Lam Chih Bing and Scotland’s Ross Bain as the five to make it through the 36 hole qualifying process.

Groom was the top qualifier in the tournament while Lee managed to get his place with a birdie at the first playoff hole.

Ewan Porter, Peter Fowler, Scott Laycock and Ben Bunny were successful at the Australasian Tour’s International Open Championship qualifying in February.

Sydney’s Lee turned professional after the Eisenhower Trophy last year and played in three Japan Golf Tour events and two Nationwide Tour events but has missed the cut in his last two events in Asia. Queenslander, David Gleeson and New South Wales’ Adam Groom, both play the Asian Tour.
