Victorian Tim Wise has claimed the 2007 Hahn SA PGA Championship in a dramatic playoff over travelling partner and good friend, Ashley Hall at the Blue Lake Golf Course, Mt Gambier.
The pair teed off 40 minutes before the last group and matched each other shot for shot throughout their final round, sharing the clubhouse lead at 14-under par.
In order to be seperated the pair headed down the eighteenth, the first hole of the sudden death playoff.
After accurate drives both players hit their approach shots from the middle of the fairway, seventy-five metres from the hole.
Hall was first to play and landed his pitch two metres from the hole. In typical aggressive fashion Wise flew his approach and carried it over the flag at the back of the green. After taking relief from the sponsor’s marquees he slammed his monster putt into the back of the hole for a birdie. Hall needed to make his uphill putt to force the playoff into a second hole.
The putt would miss left leaving Wise to walk away with the trophy and his maiden Von Nida Tour victory.
“Victory has never tasted so sweet. This is a very special moment for me, I want to thank my family and friends, especially my wife Leanne and three children for all their support and believing in their dad,” said an emotional Wise as he collected the winners cheque of $15,750.
It would be a disappointing finish for Hall, who has had an amazing start to his professional career with a win in the nab Victorian PGA earlier this year.
Ryan Haller and Andrew Martin both narrowly missed birdies on the final hole to join the playoff and finished in a tie for third.
The tour breaks for a month before the players challenge the difficult Cut Golf Course in Port Bouvard for the 2007 WA PGA championship.
