Victoria hits the front in Interstate Teams Matches

Victoria leads the way after day one of the 2007 Australia Women’s Interstate Teams Matches, easily defeating Tasmania 7 matches to 0 at Barwon Heads Golf Club. National squad member Kate Combes was a standout, winning her foursomes with Stacey Keating 4/3 and going on to route Laurie Chew 6/5 in the singles.
Western Australia sits in second place after overpowering defending champions South Australia 4˝ matches to 2˝. Stacey Shanahan was instrumental in her state’s win, claiming both her foursomes and singles matches and West Australian star Kristie Smith re-found her form with a convincing 4/3 win over fellow National Squad member Stephanie Na.
Queensland defeated perennial rivals New South Wales 4-3 in what proved to be a gripping contest. Australian Amateur Champion Sunny Park fell 3/1 to Queenslander Cecilia Nha ,who also tasted success over the champ 2/1 in the foursomes alongside playing partner Sheree Hasson.
National Squad member Frances Bondad was a solid contributor for New South Wales, defeating fellow member Bree Arthur 3/1 to keep her state in it but it wasn’t their day as Queensland snuck home for a narrow victory.
The event continues for the rest of the week and concludes on Friday. Foursome matches commence 8am and singles matches commence at 12.30pm (AEST).
