Kulacz shoots equal course record at Bowl
IN: News | Queensland Mens | Keperra Bowl (2007) | Round Three | 17 May 2007
National Squad member and Western Australian, Rick Kulacz (Hartfield) has equalled Kevin Lee’s course record 63 (-9) in today’s third round of the 2007 Keperra Bowl to put himself well into contention heading into tomorrow’s final round. Kulacz continued the extraordinary scoring in this week’s Bowl and will head into the final round just two behind the leader, after starting the day nine shots adrift. Amazingly the previous course record at Keperra was a 64 (-8) shot by Eagle Chang (Oxley) in 2003 and has now been broken twice this week with Kevin Lee (Oxley) opening with a 63 on Tuesday.
While Kulacz took some of the limelight, it was Jamie Arnold (Cronulla) who has continued his good week with an impressive round of 66 (-6) to lead the Championship at 203 (-13) after 54 holes. National Squad member, Arnold has fired three quality rounds and is currently the only player in the field to break 70 each day with opening rounds of 68 (-4) and 69 (-3).
Australian Amateur Match Play champion Rohan Blizard has also played well this week to trail Arnold by just one shot after completing his third round in 67 (-5). It is cramped at the top of the leaderboard with Lake Macquarie Amateur Champion, Blake McGrory (Surfers Paradise) growing in confidence and equal with Blizard in second place at 204 (-12).
A further shot back sharing fourth position with Kulacz is Australian Amateur Stroke Play champion, Andrew Dodt (Gatton) and Kevin Lee. Dodt shot a round of 70 (-2) today and overnight leader Lee will be a little disappointed with his 72 (Even), but is still well in contention at 205 (-11).
17-year-old Queensland Junior Champion, Tarquin MacManus (Pacific) found some of the form that was present earlier in the year, when he dominated Australian Junior events, with a round of 65 (-7) today to take him to 211 (-5) for the Championship and put him in equal 18th position.
Western Australia has taken a small lead in the Interstate Teams event, courtesy of Kulacz’s brillant round and are now at 18 under par. They lead the New South Wales pair of Arnold and Blizard who are just three shots back, with Victoria and Queensland in striking distance at 13 under and 12 under par respectively.
The final round will commence at 8:00am with the final groups to tee off just before 10:00am. The players are exepected to finish their rounds at approximately 2:15pm with spectators welcome.
