South Australian Jason Norris claimed his first Von Nida Tour victory winning the 2007 Oceanique WA PGA Championship at The Cut Golf Club, Port Bouvard in Western Australia earlier today.
Norris a seasoned professional with eleven years of tour experience, withstood the pressure from playing partners New South Welshman Aaron Townsend and Victorian Cameron Percy to record a one-stroke victory.
Norris finished the championship on seven-under par, with Townsend who birdied the final hole in outright second on six, with Percy a further shot away in third.
Victorian Marc Leishman, the only other player to end the tournament in red figures along with West Australian Steve Collins fired the best score on the final day with a one-under, 71.
Norris who began the final round with a one-stroke advantage began nervously and surrendered the lead on the very first hole with a double-bogey six. Heading into the back-nine, the final trio were all tied on eight-under.
Norris made the first move with a birdie on eleven after holing a bomb from the front edge. A triple-bogey seven on the 12th would thrawt the challenge of Percy.
With another birdie on 13, Norris had established a three-shot lead and would prevail down the stretch.
“It doesn’t get any better than this. I have had to wait a long time for this moment but victory has never tasted so sweet,” Norris said in his acceptance speech.
For his efforts this week, Norris had his biggest pay day of his career taking home the winners cheque of $15,750.
