Scott regroups to lead in Memphis

Adam Scott has taken an instant liking to the TPC Southwind course, the venue for this week’s Stanford St Jude Championship but it might be a course specialist who will yet prove to be his greatest rival.
Scott, who is playing this event for the first time, takes a three shot lead over two time winner and regular placegetter at TPC Southwind, David Toms, and Brian Gay into tomorrow’s final round.
Scott, who led by one after the delayed second round, fell two behind Gay through 11 holes of the third round before he was able to put together three birdies in four holes to move ahead. At about that time, David Toms, who won this event in 2003 and 2004 and finished runner up in 2005, emerged as a potential challenger to the Australian when he birdied three holes early in his back nine to move to six under and within one of the lead at that point.
Whether winning the week before a major, if he is able to do so, is the right recipe for success next week at Oakmont remains to be seen, but Scott is proving that he has his game in the best shape he can in the lead up to the demands that await in Pittsburg.
Robert Allenby is the next best Australian in 14th place, while Andrew Buckle who completed his second round this morning to be in third position at that point had a tough day. His third round of 75 left him in 21st position.
