Pak continues remarkable run at Jamie Farr

BY Bruce Young | LPGA Tour | 2007 Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic | Round Four | 16 Jul 2007

For the fifth time in the last ten years, Se Ri Pak is the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic winner. Her amazing strike rate at the Highland Meadows layout in Sylvania, Ohio is one of the more intriguing footnotes of the LPGA Tour.

After establishing a five shot lead after 36 holes, the 30-year-old Korean was chased for much of the closing 36 holes by teenager and Kraft Nabisco champion, Morgan Pressel. In fact the gap was closed to just one shot late in today’s final round thanks in no small way to a hole in one at the 6th hole by Pressel but two late birdies by Pak and a bogey at the last by Pressel saw the final margin as three.

The pair separated themselves from the field with a margin of six shots back to the third placed Wendy Ward, Carri Wood, Laura Davies and Laura Diaz.

This was Pak’s 24th LPGA Tour win and the lady who in so many respects trailblazed for the countless Koreans to follow her onto the LPGA Tour is back close to her best.

The only Australians to make the cut were Rachel Hetherington and Katherine Hull who finished 21st.

The LPGA Tour now plays the HSBC Women’s World Match Play Championship at the superb Wykagl Country Club in New Rochelle, New York.
