Newly crowned world number two and last week’s Canadian Open winner, Jim Furyk, has announced his withdrawal from the $8 million WGC Bridgestone Invitational sighting a back injury that flared up on the practice range.
“I’m very stiff right now and don’t have a lot of movement in my upper back and then into my neck because of the connection.”
In a press conference on Tuesday, the 37-year-old was disappointed with the timing of the injury.
“You know, I’m a little disappointed after playing so well last week and coming to a place that is in my top five events.”
“I love the golf course and getting the chance to come here. But obviously the first thing is getting healthy. I would love to try to be prepared and ready to go at the PGA. I’ve had a good stretch the last few months of playing, so it’s a little easier to handle.”
Furyk has enjoyed a consistent season with five top-3 finishes including his first win of the season. The Pennsylvanian native sits in 3rd place in the race for the Fedex Cup and has amassed a season total of close to US$3.8 million.
