Stacy Lewis has been named the winner of the NW Arkansas Championship after the event had been reduced to just 18 holes due to heavy rain throughout the week.
The University of Arkansas collegiate golfer became the first amateur to win an LPGA Tour event since 1969 but this will stand for little as the LPGA Tour will not recognise any of the statistics from this event. She is acknowledged as the winner only for administrative purposes in this inaugural staging of the event but gets little other recognition for heading the field at the completion of 18 holes.
Lewis finished ahead of Australian Katherine Hull, Taiwan’s Teresa Lu and American Kristy McPherson who all finished in a share of second but whose earnings for this week will not count towards the official money list for 2007.
Rachel Hetherington finished 11th after her first and only round of 69.
The focus of attention for the LPGA Tour will now fall on the Solheim Cup starting on Friday in Sweden.
