Mizuno announces MX-560 driver

Mizuno’s highly anticipated re-entry into the driver market is topped with the announcement of a second new model – the MX-560. Unlike its more sophisticated cousin the MP-600, the MX-560 is an unapologetic monster of a straight distance driver.

Mizuno’s R&D team discovered that the geometry of previous square and geometrically influenced drivers sacrificed distance in their quest for maximum MOI (resistance to twisting). A study of geometry proved that an optimal design could both maximize up/down and toe/heel MOI without a reduction in ball speeds and driving distance. A CNC milled plasma welded CORTECH face delivering the maximum R&A/USGA allowable energy transfer enhances MX-560’s distance further still.

The MX-560 also introduces a re-engineered ‘bulge and roll’ design to the face that the R&D team discovered was key in improving consistency from off centre strikes. A Power Bar construction, reminiscent of Mizuno’s original T-ZOID design re-enforces the crown and provides a distinct alignment aid.

“With the new 2008 guidelines for driver performance coming into effect, we wanted to show club golfers that they wouldn’t be giving up any distance this year,” commented Andy Kikidas, European Product Manager. “We took the new guidelines as a challenge and found other legal means to help club golfers hit the ball further than ever.”

“Each element of the MX-560 driver is designed to enhance initial ball velocity from every spot on the club face,” added Kikidas. “By optimising the key factors of launch angle, spin rate, ball speed, and Moment of Inertia through state-of-the-art technologies, the MX-560 will be a nice surprise to anyone who thought the new driver regulations would be robbing them of distance.”

The MX-560 driver is available in 8.5, 9.5, 10.5, and 12 degree lofts. A left handed model is available in 9.5 and 10.5 degree lofts. Mizuno’s Exsar DS3 graphite shaft (L, LT, R, S) is standard. Also standard on the MX-560 will be the exclusive Mizuno/Golf Pride M-21 58 grip.
