Batibasaga heads age group at Gary Player

Queensland Amateur Champion, Rika Batibasaga (Indooroopilly) will take a two stroke lead into his age division (18 – 20 Years) in tomorrow’s final round of the 2007 Gary Player Classic after another quality round of 69 (-3) today. In second place is Lake Macquarie Amateur Champion, Blake McGrory (Surfers Paradise) who put together a respectable round of 72 today, after leading overnight.

Just a further two shots back are two local players Gavin Fairfax and Jared Consoli on 211 (-5).

Leading the 16 – 17 Years division is Western Australian Aiden Bae (Gosnells) who has put together three quality rounds of 69 (-3). He will take a five shot lead into the final round over Daniel Nisbet (Caboolture) who returned a 71 (-1). Nisbet’s card was tarnished with a quadruple bogey 8 on the 5th hole today in an otherwise great round.

Taylor MacDonald leads the youngest age group (15 Years and under) after a round of 76 (4) today for a 54 hole total of 225 (9). He leads three players by just two shots and will be looking forward to tomorrow’s final round.

The Gary Player Classic is held within three age groups, 15 years and under, 16 – 17 years and 18 – 20 years. It is one of the country’s most prestigous junior golf championships attracting young male golfers from all over Australia, and internationally. The event dates back to 1972 and has been a stepping stone for some of Australia’s best golfers including Greg Norman, Adam Scott and Jason Day.

Those players surviving the 54 hole cut mark will contest the final round tomorrow commencing at 6:45am.
