After leading by two heading into the final day of the Gateway Tour Championship in Iowa, Queensland’s Matt Ballard has finished joint runner up, just one shot behind the winner, American, Ryan Dillon.
With a first prize of US$65,000 at stake and a start at next year’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am also available to the winner, it was an important day for those in contention. Ballard started slowly with two early bogeys but by the time he had reached the 12th tee he was back in the lead.
Disaster struck at the par four 12th when the 29-year-old Queenslander took double bogey and although he was back within one with a birdie at the 15th, both he and the eventual winner, Dillon, bogeyed the 16th. That was the way it would remain with the joint runner up Kevin Streelman also dropping a shot late in his round to cost himself a winning chance.
Victorian Andrew Martin finished in 52nd place.
