A brilliant final round of 66 at the Japan Open Golf Championship has seen the already dominant player of the 2007 Japan Golf Tour, Toru Taniguchi, extend his lead on the Japan Golf Tour Money list and in doing so win the Japan Open for the second occasion.
Taniguchi started the last round in 6th place and some six shots behind the Koumei Oda.
Oda, who was looking for his first victory, self destructed with a final round of 80 and let the more tournament hardened Tanigichi and Shingo Katayama take control of the tournament.
39-year-old Taniguchi’s outward nine of 31 had him in charge and given his opening round of 75 it was a huge recovery as he stormed past Oda and had the tournament to win or lose by the turn in today’s final round.
Taniguchi would eventually win by two over Shingo Katayama and by three over Keiichiro Fukabori, to claim his 14th Japan Golf Tour title and move to fifth place on the all time Japan Golf Tour moneylist.
The best of the Australasians was previous winner, David Smail who finished in a share of 6th, while Wayne Perske was 18th, Brendan Jones 39th and Craig Parry 48th
The Japan Golf Tour will now play the Bridgestone Open.
