Momoko Ueda has today confirmed her status as the number one player on the Japan Ladies Golf Tour by winning the co-sanctioned Mizuno Open in Mie Prefecture in Japan and in doing so has given herself the opportunity to play the USLPGA Tour.

The 21-year-old Ueda had already won three of her four Japan Ladies Golf Tour victories in 2007 but today, in beating a field of high class USLPGA Tour players, she has proven that she has what it takes to move to an even higher level with her game.

Ueda started the final day in a share of the 36 hole lead with Laura Davies but birdies at her opening two holes had her in front and an albatross at the par five 7th all but secured her a career altering title.

Maria Hjorth and Reilly Rankin eventually shared second place two shots behind the winner while another Japanese star, Shinobu Moromizato finished fourth, three shots further back.

Canberra’s Nikki Campbell who regularly plays the Japan Ladies Tour was the best of the Australians in 24th place, Wendy Doolan and Rachel Hetherington were 41st, Karrie Webb 40th, Lindsey Wright, 55th and Tamie Durdin 63rd.

After three weeks in Asia, the LPGA Tour now heads back to the USA to play the Mitchell Company Tournament of Champions in Alabama.
