Painter leads charge at USPGA Tour Q-School

The first of six rounds of golf has been completed at the USPGA Tour school in California and with nine Australians and one New Zealander there is much interest from a regional point of view.

Anthony Painter heads the local charge with a first round 67 at the Stadium course one of two courses being used at the La Quinta complex, the other being the Tournament Course. Painter is in third place. Mathew Goggin started with a double bogey early but came back with four birdies and a bogey to finish at four under in 8th place.

James McLean is 19th at 3 under along with Mark Hensby, Steve Allan 71st at even par as is Scott Laycock who recovered from a slow start, Paul Gow 16th at two over, Bradley Hughes four over in 146th, with Stephen Leaney and Michael Long at five over.
