Jones leads Scott by two at Visa Taiheiyo

Canberra’s Brendan Jones turned a two shot deficit into a two shot lead in today’s third round of the Mitsui Sumitomo Visa Taiheiyo Masters in Japan.
Jones heads in to the final round with a two shot lead over fellow Australian Adam Scott and by three over, Toru Taniguchi.
Jones added a third round of 69 to opening rounds of 67 and 68 and has a chance to overcome what has been a comparatively poor record by him at this event in previous years. His previous best at this event was when 13th in 2002.
“This is a golf course that should suit me,” said Jones prior to the tournament beginning, “but for some reason I have not done all that well here.”
Jones is seeking his second Japan Golf Tour victory of the season and his 7th overall and will again play with Scott and Taniguchi in the final round.
Scott is playing in Japan for just the second occasion having played the Crowns event in 2001. He led after two rounds on that occasion before struggling over the weekend but, now as one of the game’s leading players, he has a chance to establish a huge fan base in that country.
Taniguchi is the leading player in Japan in 2007 and so tomorrow promises much in terms of a local taking on two successful internationals. Not that the chances are restricted to those three players as Steve Conran is alone in fourth place just one behind Taniguchi and Jones’ fellow Canberra golfer, Chris Campbell, is in a share of 5th place with Toru Suzuki and Takuya Taniguchi.
The tournament carries prizemoney of $A1.45 million.
