Aaron Baddley has stormed up the leaderboard following a six-under 66, to be at eight-under and three shots ahead of a group of four, including Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, overnight leader Robert Allenby, Rick Kulacz and Terry Pilkadaris.
Baddley made amends for yesterday’s opening two-under 70, with a three hole birdie blitz on Huntingdale’s back nine, which began on the 12th hole.
“I played well out there today, but I feel there is still room for improvement,” remarked the world number eighteen.
“The afternoon players will have to deal with the wind, so it’s good to be in the clubhouse with the score I’ve got.”
Dual winner of the Australian Masters, Robert Allenby has just teed off and is even after four holes at five-under, three behind Baddeley.
Stuart Appleby is currently one-over through three holes to be at two-under, whilst former winner Peter Lonard, has begun his second round strongly to be one-under through two holes and at three-under.
Baddeley has returned to his hometown and is considered one of the favourites this week after a fine year on the PGA Tour, with a win at the FBR Open, a second at the BMW Championship and seven top-ten finishes, enabling him to collect prizemoney in excess of US$3.4 million for the 2007 season.
