Australians make their move in PGA Tour qualifying

There were several big moves on day three of the USPGA Tour qualifying school at La Quinta in California with Australians featuring amongst the best rounds of the day.
At the completion of fifty-four of the one hundred and eight holes, second round leader Dean Wilson still leads but now by two over England’s John Morgan, who recently gained his card for the European Tour via the Challenge Tour.
Anthony Painter maintains his solid form tied in fourth, five behind Wilson and joined on that score by Victorian James McLean who produced a five under 67 today. McLean played for the University of Minnesota where he was the medallist at the NCA Championship in 1998 and has played the Buy.Com Tour in recent times. He is considered a great talent but still working off some of the rough edges.
Scott Laycock bounced back today with a seven under 65 to be tied for 10th and when you consider he was three over early in his first round on Wednesday, this has been quite a performance to date.
Mark Hensby and Mathew Goggin are 16th, Stephen Leaney’s 66 today moved him from 90th to 27th, Steve Allan perhaps still recovering from his quadruple bogey late in his round yesterday is 129th, Bradley Hughes 142nd, Michael Long 152nd and Paul Gow, who appears to have lost his game at present, 166th.
