Michael Sim has taken an early liking for the Coolum course, moving to the top of the leaderboard at four-under after eight holes of the Cadbury Schweppes Australian PGA Championship.
Scott Laycock is one stroke back at three-under after eight holes, and has been joined by American Jason Gore, who has had a blistering start to his round.
Gore, starting on the 10th, has carded birdies on three of his first four holes as he looks to upset the Australian applecart.
Five players are lying equal fourth at two-under, including Australians Leigh McKechnie and Darren Spencer, and New Zealander David Smail.
In what looks to be favourable playing conditions, John Senden and Nick O’Hern are at one-under after just two holes, while one of the tournament favourites Adam Scott is level with the card after two.
